  • Art to your kids’ height

Art has always been important to me- but I have to admit it-motherhood has put me closer to it than ever before. I started paying attention and collecting the simplest art forms making masterpieces out of my 2 year old doodles.  I also started sharing and teaching art to my little ones. Making art accessible to my kids became a mission and learning about Just My Height Art Shows made it that much simpler.

    Art to my height

Just my Height Art Shows® strives to put fine art at young children’s eye level by displaying it at just 36 inches high. This format creates a unique experience not only for the children but also for the adults, as the adults are forced to “work” (bend, squat, sit) to see the art.

“Children love and respond to art in all forms, but it’s not usually displayed at a level at which they can see it,” says Just My Height Founder and Artist Christine Lyall, who produced her first Just My Height show in 2013. “If we want children to appreciate and maybe even create art when they are older, why not expose them to it—and I mean real art—when they are younger?”

For its next show, Just My Height has partnered with Talking Off the Wall Magazine, which has documented the South Florida street art scene for the past two years, to bring to Miami families “Secret Doors.” The show opens on Friday, April 8, 2016, with a special reception from 6 to 10 p.m., at Wynwood Warehouse Project , 450 NW 27th St., Miami, Florida, 33327.

“Secret Doors” will feature 15 of South Florida’s most well-known street artists and muralists, including Miguel Paredes, Luis Berros, Nate Dee, GG, DaveL, Aquarela, Monique Lassooij and many others. Proceeds from the show will benefit ArtCares for Kids, which brings art activities to children undergoing treatment for cancer and other serious medical illnesses at Jackson Memorial Holtz Children’s Hospital and Baptist Children’s Hospital.

“Secret Doors” will feature hands-on art activities and games designed to engage the children (and the adults!) with the artwork on display. There will also be raffle prizes, food and beverages for everyone to enjoy, and a coloring book to buy, which Just My Height and Talking Off the Wall produced based on the artwork in the show. Sponsored by The Florida House Experience, VITAS Healthcare and Artist & Craftsman Supply and supported by many local organizations including BKB Moms.

I am really looking forward to the event. It is actually pretty inexpensive. Admission for adults is $15 in advance and $20 at the door and kids are free. Get your tickets at Eventbrite at “Secret Doors Street Art Show”!
