  • 24 hours in Miami… with Kids

If you have 24 glorious hours to spend with your kids in Miami this is what you can do! Whether you are traveling to Miami, recently relocated, on school holiday or simply have the kids for a full day these are some of my recommendations to have fun and enjoy this wonderful city. There are plenty though, this is just a recommended outing and a very ambicious one. It also would vary if the weather is sunny, rainy or if you have kids of different ages.

If I had 24 hours in Miami with my girls I would…..

First thing first, kiddos need to have their breakfasts and parents need to get their coffee. Head to Morgans in the cool artsy Wynwood neighborhood (28 NE 29th St. Miami, FL 33137 – )

After a nice fulfilling breakfast you are in the neighborhood for some artsy walking, there are plenty of murals and street art on 2nd Avenue for kids to look at and get inspired. Also, take advantage of the wonderful colors and backgrounds and shoot some pictures, trust me they come out great! After they get tired of walking and while on 2nd Avenue head to play-in, the only indoor multi-sensory playground in Wynwood. While I consider the entrance fee to the indoor playground a little pricey my girls love it and they have so much fun that it is worth it (remember to bring your own socks to save a few bucks). By now you are probably in need of some coffee or nap time, if coffee is your thing just a block away from play-in you will find panther coffee or if you dare walk more or your kids “allow” you to walk more head to one of my favorites dr. smood also on 2nd Avenue.

If  you are ready to change scenery head to well-known Lincoln Road and get the kids some ice-cream at our favorite gelato in Miami Freddo.  After that you are ready to head to the beach so that you can get a little late outdoor sun before bedtime. Head to south point park where you can enjoy a beautiful view of your kids playing, nice green grass, the ocean, cruises, fancy Fisher Island, as well as the impetus city. Amazing view to the end the day. Now, drive home safely, get dinner ready if you are still hungry and do all the required mom things to do before bedtime.

15 other great options depending on where you are staying/located in Miami:

    1. PAMM – art museum which hosts a few hands-on activities for kids and has a special family guide to plan for your visit, download here!
    2. Miami Children’s Museum –  in my opinion one of the best children’s museum in the US. Kids enjoy completely freedom to explore and touch anything, educational and fun activities, it is a kids world everywhere you look!
    3. Miami Sea-aquarium – animal encounters, exhibits & shows.
    4. Crandon Park, Family Amusement Center and Gardens, Crandon Park Amusement Center – beach,  nature, picnic area as well as vintage carrousel.
    5. The Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center – nature at its best, environmental education, seagrass adventures, birdwatching, hammock hike, etc.. If you live in Miami, your kid can be an active junior naturalist ambassador (download application here)
    6. Zoo Miami – more animals! A little too far if you are in South Beach.
    7. Jungle Island – interactive zoological park with exhibits and shows.
    8. Kydoo Indoor Playground – another great option for rainy days, babies to 5 year old kids will have fun at this indoor facility while mom can grab a decent coffee and some pastries.
    9. Coral Gables Museum – explores architecture, urban design & planning, sustainable development & preservation through exhibitions, programs, art & history. Great one-day camps!
    10. Public Libraries – depending on location they have free storytelling, baby and me, reading workshops for kids and adults.
    11. Fairchild Garden/Butterfly Conservatory –  A great place to relax and spend the day with family and friends. Learning is at the center of everything they do – learning through fun, interactive and truly hands-on experiences.  In my experience, the Butterfly garden is the most attractive spot for kids.
    12. Merrick Park – if you would like to do some shopping while having family enjoy an outdoor setting, maybe get some ice-cream, this is a good spot!
    13. Ice-Skating in Miami Beach – I love this outing when the weather is either extremely hot or rainy, you feel for a little bit up North. Available only during the weekends.
    14. Viscaya Museum and Gardens – kids will love the gardens, maybe too historical for little ones, but great coffee shop and perfect home to the bioblitz in Miami. Great as a family outing!
    15. Venetian Swimming Pool in Coral Gables – an aquatic facility unlike any other in the country. The pool was created in 1923 from a coral rock quarry. Kids younger than 3 years old not admitted.
