RACE Cultural Program: For People Who Live in Bodies (of every color, appearance, size and shape)
10:30-12:30 For Kids & Adults Who Live in Bodies (of every color appearance, size & shape)
Family friendly program; (also for educators):
(Ages 6 and older)
Whatever skin you’re in…Claim your right to SHINE! (Come, with or without a child. Or if you know any child. Or ever were a child.)
Do you wonder how to HELP YOUR CHILDREN when they are labeled or teased because of their color, size, shape, etc., or when they simply notice physical differences between people? Do you know HOW TO TRANSFORM TEASERS, as well as HELP THE TEASED? Would you like a FUN, EFFECTIVE RESOURCE to turn to when such issues arise, in families, classrooms, anywhere? Is there an engaging, optimal way to begin difficult conversations about the differences of EVERYBODY’S BODIES, or to talk to kids about “race”?
Each participant of this unique family-friendly program will “claim a character” of a story that magically turns all appearance-based judgments UPSIDE-DOWN and INSIDE-OUT.
10:30…”Claim your character” (activity) for the…
11:00…Reading of RACE: An OPEN & SHUT Case,
an extraordinary double-sided, illustrated story
that transforms all who encounter it
11:45…Sharing and activities to “OWN THE SHINE”!
12:30…BE YOURSELF; SEE YOURSELF and others, in a fresh way
Note: You may drop in throughout the program; but you’ll be happy if you experience it fully. Come and enjoy this special opportunity, with Anya Cordell, recipient of the Spirit of Anne Frank Award, and author/illustrator of RACE: An OPEN & SHUT Case, a small book, with a big mission , that “flips” preconceptions about “race” and all appearance-based judgments, upside-down! Encounter Anya, and the Open & Shut families. Most of all, encounter yourself!
