“The great motherhood friendships are the ones in which two women can admit [how difficult mothering is] quietly to each other, over cups of tea at a table sticky with spilled apple juice and littered with markers without tops.” ― Anna Quindlen

Our 3rd School Fair and Conference took place last Saturday, October 10th. We had over 400 people at our one-stop gathering for families to meet with representatives from preeminent schools to access information and resources for finding the right school options.

The Fair was opened to everyone in the Miami community even Juana La Iguana came to visit!. While meet & greet with school representatives took place in the main lobby area, the amazing educational panels took place at the Atlantis conference room. We were honored to have so many great speakers. The Educational conference covers various topics: admission processes, public vs private, bilingual and multicultural education and preschool choices. Victoria Kenny, BKB Moms’ Director opened the fair with some welcome remarks and a positive message to encourage all parents to become active participants as the first and most important teachers of our kids. In partnership with Ashoka, BKB Moms is encouraging parents to become involved in the upcoming parenting change-making group (please email us if you are interested in joining info@bkbmoms.com). Victoria Kenny thank the Fair’s main sponsor, Mercy Hospital and introduced Alicia Ortiz, Community Outreach Specialist who happily welcomed parents and schools to the event.

Featured speakers included: Renny Neyra, District Director, The Parent Academy, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Elena Castellanos, Admission Director, Guilliver Schools, Ingrid Palmisano, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, Miami Country Day School, Carmen García, Principal, Ada Merritt K-8 Center, Felipe Pieras, Educational Advisor, Education Office, Consulate General of Spain and Ivian Destro Boruchowski, MEd., FIU and University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Moderators for the panels included: Cristina Burlay, President, Portuguese International Parents Association (PIPA) and Yasiara Ortiz, Founder and Educational Consultant, MissStudy.

The Conference concluded with a very dynamic mom to mom conversation with mom representatives from Tiniciti, KLA, Brickell International Academy, Key Biscayne Presbyterian School and Gordon Schools.

Thanks to all participating parents, schools and wonderful speakers. Special thanks to Mercy Hospital, our presenting sponsor, Frost Science fun sponsor,  Novecento Brickell conference break sponsor and Contemporary Orthodontics Brickell for their face-painting sponsorship!
